Balancing The Budget - Crime

In an effort to pretend that they care, politicians claim to be hard on crime. They keep passing more laws making even more activities crimes. They change the existing laws to make the penalties for existing crimes even harsher. They hire extra prosecutors and extra police to spend more time and money investigating and prosecuting all these crimes. And they build more prisons to hold all the additional criminals.

The problem with this, is that with more and more people becoming criminals, and more and more people being stored in prisons, there are fewer and fewer people left outside of prison to work for a living and pay taxes to support this government provided service.

The politicians in California have come up with a solution for this that they borrowed from the "Department Of Game And Wildlife". It is called Catch and Release.

This new program allows the politicians to continue overspending to create new classes of criminals which must be tracked down, captured, and prosecuted. This will prove to the non-criminals that politicians are hard on crime.

Once the criminal has been convicted, the criminal will be released to do whatever criminals do when they are not in a cell waiting for trial. This will prove to the non-criminals that the politicians are interested in balancing the budget.

Seems like a win win solution to me.
